Sailing on Glenmore Reservoir
Our Thursday evening sailing and canoeing program on the Glenmore Reservoir will start Thursday 16 July and will run every Thursday until the end of August 2015, weather permitting. This is a fun activity for all cadets regardless of experience so please come out and try it as we have experienced officers to teach you. This is not a mandatory parade or activity of cadets.
LOCATION: South Glenmore Park – 90 Avenue and 24 Street, SW. Our boats are located on the boat parking area at the SW end of the Glenmore Sailing Club Building.
DAY AND TIME: Thursday Evening 1830 hrs (6:30 PM) to 2030 hrs (8:30 PM).
EQUIPMENT: We are operating Canoes and CL 14 Sail Boats. All required safety equipment including life jackets are provided. A safety boat operated by the City of Calgary life guards is on the water while we are on the reservoir.
CLOTHING: Cadets should bring clothing appropriate for the weather including a change of clothes, towel, sun screen, hat, sunglasses and shoes that may get wet. Normally cadets wear shorts, water shoes and summer T-Shirts while on the water. Bare feet are not allowed!
SAFETY: Cadets and parents/guardian(s) must report to the Officer of the Day to sign in when arriving at the boats and sign out when departing after the evening activities. Parents/Guardian(s) must provide a phone number they can be contacted at while their cadet is with us that evening. Weather can change quickly requiring the boating to be cancelled and cadets picked up prior to 2030 hrs.
CANCELLATION: If the weather is not favourable for safe boating due to rain, thunderstorms or high winds we will not go out on the water and the evening activity will be cancelled. The decision to cancel due to weather is normally made by the boats officer based on conditions at the Glenmore Reservoir between 1800 hrs and 1830 hrs that day.
